Hi! I’m Shaan Bulchandani, a student of the Doon School in Dehradun, India. I am currently in grade 12, completing the IB diploma, while simultaneously juggling all the other aspects of boarding school life. I love all things Biology, Chemistry and Psychology, and have a keen interest in History. While I am an avid sportsman, I also enjoy playing the guitar, helping animals, and writing in my free time.
While this website is meant to provide a brief look at the actives and extracurricular things that I have pursued over the last few years, a more comprehensive list can be found in my resume.
I have had two meaningful internships during last two years. The first was as a research assistant at Momentum India where I worked on a sanitation system that incorporated UV-C light. The second internship was in the service of animals along with Dr. Vedpathak, a noted veterinarian at the K-9 Pet Clinic in Mumbai. Furthermore, I have authored a research paper entitled “Kleptoplasty: The Ability of Sacoglossan Sea-Slugs to Sequester Photosynthetic Plastids from their Algal Food Sources”, and frequently contribute to the “Echo” my school’s premier Science Magazine, of which I am editor.
I have been an active member of my school’s swimming and basketball teams for the last 4 years, participating in competitions across various levels all over India, and have been given the opportunity to serve as its Swimming Captain. Furthermore, I have actively participated in the various interhouse sporting events that happen at school including athletics, soccer, field hockey and cricket.
The Rashtriya Life Saving Society, or RLSS, is an organisation dedicated to the promotion of water safety through teaching first aid and lifeguarding. I have been a member of RLSS for the last 5 years and have been given the opportunity to serve as RLSS Captain. Furthermore, I have helped organize various RLSS events in school and have even won 5 medals at the RLSS National Competition.
Music has been an integral part of my life ever since I was a child mindlessly hitting keys on my father’s piano. I now play the Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar and Bass Guitar, having completed my Grade 4 Trinity Exam for Classical guitar. I have performed on various occasions – parties, formal recitals, inter-school music competitions and even as a part of my school’s Founder’s Day production. My repertoire spans classical, pop, rock, jazz and reggae.

Over the years I’ve contributed to various animal welfare organisations including The Welfare of Stray Dogs (WSD) Mumbai, Animalia at the Doon School, and volunteering at Help-in-Suffering, an animal rescue and rehabilitation centre in Jaipur. Other service opportunities that I have availed are the Audio-Visual squad at school, Goonj, an initiative through which we donated clothes to the underprivileged, and Electrostep a project that made use of piezoelectric tiles to generate electricity in underprivileged neighbourhoods.
I undertook the task of repairing a dilapidated old boat which was sold to us by a local fisherman. Upon completion, the refurbished boat was loving rechristened the Pat-Sea (named after my grandmother, Patsy), and returned to the fisherman.
